Step 5: Guardrails

Step 5 sets the limits everyone inherits. Guardrails apply to every member of the Force.

Screenshot to add: Step 5 of 9 with Force-wide instructions, Run budget per step and the member preview.

Force-wide instructions

Plain-language instructions added to every member's prompt. They are additive to the platform prompt and take precedence over member instructions when they conflict. The tag reads Prose only.

  1. Add an instruction

Click + Add instruction. You can add up to 8, each up to 1000 characters, with a live counter. Example: "Start every response with the current work status."

  2. Heed the warnings

If your text sounds safety-related (mentions sending, emailing, writing, updating or deleting) the wizard shows This sounds safety-relevant with a button that turns it into an enforced limit and removes the prose. If it mentions memory or precedent you see This may restate platform memory behavior.

  3. Remove one (optional)

Click the x beside an instruction to delete it. With none, the list reads "No instructions."

Enforced limits

Enforced limits are hard guarantees checked by the platform, stronger than any instruction. Three exist:

  • Never writes anywhere
  • Never sends email or messages
  • Never deletes anything

Run budget per step

Caps how much a single member step can use before it pauses and asks you to continue. It never stops a step for good and cannot be switched off. The tag reads Pauses only.

FieldTypeRequiredDefaultWhat it does
Spend budgetNumber (USD)NoPlatform defaultSmallest increment 0.01.
Token budgetNumber (tokens)NoPlatform defaultIncrement 1000.
Time budgetNumber (minutes)NoPlatform defaultStored as seconds.

Leave a field empty to use the platform default. Each field shows Default and Max underneath. Values must be greater than zero, and above the administrator's maximum you see "Above the maximum of …".

Preview what a member sees

Click Preview what a member sees, then choose a member in Preview for member. Actual prompt order shows the order the prompt is assembled: 1) Force-wide instructions, then 2) member instructions.

Screenshot to add: The Preview what a member sees panel showing the prompt order.

Continuing

Click Members. The guardrails are saved with the toast Force-wide guardrails saved. Non-admins see the fields disabled, and Members just moves on.

Next: Step 6: Members.
