Step 1: Purpose
The first step answers one question: what should this team accomplish? It is the only step that creates anything, so it must be completed before the others unlock.
What you will do
Name the Force
Type a name in Force name, for example
Customer Operations. Pick something that tells teammates what the team is for. This field is required.Screenshot placeholderScreenshot to add: The Force name field filled in with an example name. Describe the mission
In Mission, write what the team should accomplish in a few sentences. This is optional, but it is shown on the Force's workspace and helps teammates understand the goal.
Add desired outcomes
Under Desired outcomes, enter up to five short outcomes of up to 160 characters each, such as "Every invoice is matched within one business day". Two empty rows are shown to start. Click + Add outcome for more, and the x button to remove a row. Blank rows are dropped when you save.

Click Define process. The button shows Saving… while the Force is created, then the wizard opens step 2.
Fields
| Field | Type | Required | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Force name | Text | Yes | Empty | Placeholder: e.g. Customer Operations. Leaving it empty shows "Give this Force a name before continuing". |
| Mission | Text area (4 rows) | No | Empty | What the team should accomplish. |
| Desired outcomes | List of text | No | 2 empty rows | Up to 5 outcomes, 160 characters each. |
What happens when you continue
- A new Force is created as a draft. A Nexus project with the same name is created automatically and a default playbook is added.
- You are taken to step 2.
- If something goes wrong you see "Could not save the Force purpose". Fix the problem and click the button again.
