Sharing chats

Share a chat you own so colleagues can read it, or read it and reply in it.

Screenshot to add: The Share chat dialog with the email box, role selector and member list.

Share a chat

  1. Open the chat

Open the chat you own. Only the owner sees the Share button.

  2. Click Share

Click Share in the header (Share this chat). The Share chat dialog opens.

  3. Enter an email address

Type the person's exact work email in the box ("name@company.com"). There is no directory search, so the address must match their account.

  4. Choose a role

Pick Viewer or Editor (see the table below).

  5. Share

Click Share, or press Enter. A toast says "Shared with (name) as (role)."

Screenshot to add: The Share dialog after sharing, showing the Owner and each person with a role dropdown and Remove.

The dialog lists Owner first, then everyone you shared with. Change a person's role with the dropdown, or click Remove. Changes apply the next time they act.

The dialog explains: "Viewers can read the conversation and its files. Editors can also post — their turns run on their own AI key and connections."

A viewer sees no message box. In its place: "View only — this chat was shared with you as a viewer. Ask the owner to make you an editor to post."

What the other person sees

  • The chat appears in their left rail under Shared with me.
  • The header badge reads Shared · Viewer or Shared · Editor.
  • In the conversation, other people's messages show the author's name.

Rules and errors

MessageWhy
"No user with that email"No account matches that address
"The owner already has this chat"You tried to share with yourself
"Add to the project first — people outside the project can only view."In a project chat, someone outside the project can only be a Viewer. Add them to the project, or choose Viewer
"Could not share this chat."A general failure. Try again
"Someone else is running a turn in this chat. Try again when it finishes."Only one reply can run in a chat at a time

A personal chat can be shared with an Editor. A project chat cannot, for people outside that project.

Team chats

A project chat whose memory visibility is Team or Org is already open to everyone in the project. They can read and post as editors. They are not listed in the Share dialog, which says "This is a team chat: everyone in the project can already read and post." See Memory in chat.

Permissions and audit

Sharing, changing a role and removing someone need Nexus chat access and ownership of the chat. These actions are recorded in the audit trail (shared, role changed, unshared, visibility changed).
