Memory in chat

Nexus can remember useful facts from your conversations and bring them back in later chats. This page explains what is remembered, how to see it, and who can see it.

Screenshot to add: The Memory section of the context panel listing captured memories.

What happens automatically

  • After a turn in a project chat, Nexus extracts memories from the conversation in the background.
  • When Nexus saves something on purpose, a small memory.save chip appears in the reply.
  • When Nexus uses a memory to answer, a Memory chip appears in the Sources row. Click it to open that memory in the Memory browser.

See what Nexus remembers

  1. Open the context panel

Click Show context panel in the chat header.

  2. Find Memory

The Memory section ("what nexus remembers") lists captured memories, 20 at a time. Scroll for more.

  3. Read a memory

Each card shows its source, how long ago it was saved ("just now", "5m ago", "3h ago") and a preview. Click a card to expand it.

Screenshot to add: Memory cards, one expanded, with the sync and forget controls.

Sync now. Click the refresh button (Sync memories now) to ask Nexus to extract memories from this chat immediately. It spins, shows a tick, and reloads the list after a couple of seconds. It only works in a project chat. A personal chat shows "Memory sync requires a project-scoped session."

Forget. Click ✕ (Forget) on a card to delete that memory. It is removed at once, with no confirmation, and you can only delete memories you own.

Empty list: "No memories yet for this project."

To search and manage everything, open Memory from the sidebar.

Choose who can see a chat's memories

Every project chat has a memory visibility:

VisibilityWho can see the conversation and its memories
PrivateOnly you
TeamThe project's team
OrgMemories are visible across your organization. Chat access is the same as Team

Personal chats are always private.

Set it when you start the chat in the New Chat dialog (Private or Team). Change it later if you own the chat:

  1. Find the badge

In the chat header click the badge showing Private, Team or Org.

  2. Click to cycle

Each click moves it to the next level: private → team → org → private. The tooltip names the next step, for example "Memory: team — click to share org-wide".

Screenshot to add: The header memory badge cycling through Private, Team and Org.

In the left rail a project chat shows a lock (private), people (team) or globe (org) icon.

  • Widening visibility (for example Private to Team) also re-labels the chat's existing memories so the new audience can see them, up to 100 of them.
  • Narrowing it changes who can open the chat straight away, but does not re-label memories that were already shared.
  • Changes can take a little while to finish. The page waits up to two minutes before reporting an error.
  • Every change is recorded in the audit trail.

Choose where Nexus recalls from

Use Override · auto → Memory recall scope to pick This project (memories for the current project) or Personal (your private memory). This project is disabled in a personal chat. Your choice is remembered. See Chat.
