Service API Keys

Service API Keys is where you store keys for outside services that Nexus tools use, such as a web search provider. It is not for AI model keys, which live on AI Model Keys.

Screenshot to add: The Service API Keys page with the Brave Search API and Serper.dev cards.

The page says: "Keys are stored encrypted in your account and used by Nexus at runtime. They are never logged or returned in full."

Open the page

Click Settings → Service API Keys in the Nexus sidebar (/nexus/settings/service-keys). You need Nexus admin permission to see it.

The services

The page has exactly two services, each on its own card. You cannot add others.

ServicePlaceholderWhat it is for
Brave Search APIBSA..."Enables real web search in Nexus (research queries, current events). Free tier: 2000 queries/month."
Serper.dev (Google Search)..."Alternative web search provider (Google results). Serper key is used if Brave is not configured."

Each card has a link, Get API key ↗, to the provider's own sign-up page. If both are saved, Brave is used first.

Add a key

  1. Get a key

Click Get API key ↗ on the card and create a key with the provider.

  2. Paste it

Click the box and paste the key. It is hidden as you type. Use the eye icon to show or hide it.

  3. Save

Click Save ("Saving…"). The button only appears while you are typing and stays disabled while the box is empty. A toast says "Key saved", or "Failed to save key".

Screenshot to add: A card with a key typed in and the Save button visible.

A green check beside the title means a key is stored. The box then shows ••••••••.

Replace or remove a key

  • Replace. Click the box. It clears, and the placeholder reads "Enter new key to replace". Type the new key and click Save.
  • Remove. Click the trash icon (Remove key). The key is deleted at once, with no confirmation. A toast says "Key removed", or "Failed to remove key".

The real key is never shown again. Nexus returns only dots and the last four characters.
